WHAT IS WINTERSTONE?

WINTERSTONE, developed by Engineer and Sculptor Lorne Winters, is a dry, white powder mix --- a complex multi-component cementitious mixture --- which, after mixing with water, produces a workable material which eventually sets as hard as stone.  The inclusion of proper reinforcing elements produces a structurally efficient composite material that can be shaped into any complexity of form.  The hardened Winterstone surface can be refined with abrasives and polished.  It can be integrally pigmented or externally patinated.  The finished Winterstone product is intrinsically weather stable and may be placed in an indoor or outdoor environment that, properly maintained, will last decades in any weather.

There are 3 different Winterstone mixes each with its own unique properties for different applications (see details below):

SCULPTING MIX

-      Non-toxic, safe, and easy to use - starts as a powder - just add water

-    Can be internally pigmented and/or externally patinated to achieve virtually any colour effect.

-       Can be directly modelled, carved and finished into a complete and final sculpture - no need to make a mold.

-       Allows complete freedom of artistic expression - you choose the size, shape, colour and texture

-       Durable and permanent - ideal for outdoor applications such as monuments, fountains and architectural ornamentation

CASTING MIX

-    Non-toxic, safe, and easy to use - starts as a powder - just add water

-    Can be internally pigmented and/or externally patinated to achieve virtually any colour effect.

-    Cast into any sized prepared mold

-    Allows for casting by pouring, hand lay-up, brush-in or combination of techniques to achieve the desired result

ULTRA MIX

-      Non-toxic, safe, and easy to use - starts as a powder - just add water

-    Ideal for creating a highly polishable/burnishable surface to create a highly realistic metallic effect

-    Can be internally pigmented and/or externally patinated to achieve virtually any colour effect.

-    An extra fine formula with increased strength, toughness and bonding properties

-    Metallic powders or mineral fillers can be added directly into the mix (up to a maximum of 1 part filler to 4 parts Ultra by volume)

COLOR-IT FX

-   Easy to use, internal or topical colorant

-    Can be used with any water-based liquid component (making it perfect for all Winterstone products), but can also be used with plaster, Hydrocal, or any other water-based casting medium

-    Mix colors just like paint - unlimited color possibilities by mixing any of the 12 pre-prepared colors in any combination

-    Mix with Winterstone Ultra to create highly realistic metallic effects
